Dryer making buzzing noise when pushing timer/start button to start dryer?

I first noticed the problem when after drying a load for about 50 minutes. After noticing the clothes were still damp I would want to start the dryer again but the timer/start button would just buzz and the machine would not start. I would check periodically and eventually the machine would start after maybe 2 or 3 hours. Yesterday I tried to start the machine with a load of towels in it and the machine would just give me a buzzing noise. I opened the lid of the dryer just to see if everything looked alright inside. So I tried again to start the machine turning the drum by hand, it started with a little buzzing noise but it eventually started turning on it's own. After about 30 minutes running the dryer started to make a slight buzzing noise getting louder and louder until the machine shut itself off. Any help would be appreciated to diagnose the problem with my dryer.

Here are your parts, includes a wiring diagram. Parts for Maytag PYE3200AZW Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.comSounds like the motor is on it's last legs. There are a couple things to check before replacing it. Turn the drum in the correct direction by hand. It should turn fairly easily. If not then perhaps there is a mechanical problem putting too much drag on it so the motor cannot start it. You may want to try this on a couple other units so you get a feel for it. Check that the motor is clean. Perhaps the centrifugal switch is staying activated so you do not have the start winding in circuit when the motor is stopped. |
