In 1999, I had a service man to see why the tub was lopsided and vibrated. He noticed it didn't have a belt and told me he never worked on washer without one. He left and didn't charge me.
I think it was purchased in 1998/99 and I have always had wonderful luck with Whirlpools. I called a repairman a couple of days ago & he said it is only balanced with the front legs and then he said it could be my floor. I only use this for my clothes....me, myself, & I. I can't afford a new one....so what do you suggest????
HELP....I still use it as it is.

Noises are very difficult for us to diagnose from afar as we have to be there to hear the type and the location.
I suggest you take off the cabinet (there are videos on this site to show you how) and by pass the lid switch and put it in spin. Hopefully you can hear where the problem is. If you are lucky it might just be that something has gotten caught between the tub and basket in which case removing it will fix things.
Good luck.
