My dryer quite heating. I tested the thermistor for continuity and it was open, so I went to a local repair shop and they gave me part 279769. It did fit - so I went ahead and installed it, but now I get an F23 error. Is it because there is another problem or do I actually need to use part 8577274? Thanks again so much for your help.
Also - I'm a female - so if you give a technical description - can you dumb it down a bit for me. :-) Thanks.

The F23 error means shorted thermistor. It's reading that because they did not give you a thermistor, they gave you a thermostat. They gave you the wrong part. The correct part number for your thermistor is 8577274. Did you test it correctly though? It is a variable resistor whose resistance depends on it's temperature. At a room temperature of 70°F it should read between 11.5 to 13.5k ohms. That's thousands of ohms. You must set your meter to correctly read that range. The second letter in the model number you gave is incorrect. It should be either an E or a G. Which is it?
