Did just that. The defrost heater came on - amber glo and water dripping. This is exactly the same as before I replaced the main board. Does this mean the new board broke in 2 months?

I would try replacing both freezer thermistors after defrosting the freezer. If that will not solve the problem, replace the motherboard and add a 1000 joule surge protector to the wall outlet. Surge protector available at Lowes, specifically made for appliances $ 12.99 in a blue box.

Just so I order the right parts, you said replace both the freezer thermistors. According to the diagram, there is a evaporator thermistor and a freezer thermistor. Are you referring to these two? When I tried to look up the parts, there is only one "sensor" Sensor temp ff Part Number: AP3185407 made by GE(Replacement parts for GE GSS25JFMBWW | AppliancePartsPros.com. There is no thermistor. Should I just order two of these "sensors"? Thanks.
P.S. should I even bother to test the thermistors before replace them? Is the replacement going to be cut and reconnect?

I believe both thermistors are the same. You just clip the wires and splice the new ones in with inline wire splices.

Replaced both thermistors today. Keeping my fingers crossed. Usually takes a couple of months for the frost to build up. Will keep you posted. Is there a quicker way to check if everything is ok now? Thanks.

No way really to check for incomplete defrost. If defrost period is too short, frost will gradually build up on the sides of the evaporator.

I did check the continuity of the thermistors. The one on the evaporator showed zero rhom. The one at the bottom of the freezer had 3-4K. The two new ones both had 3-4k. All at room temp. Does this mean the one on the evaporator was bad? Really hope this will fix it.

Seems that one of them is bad, just replace both and see what happens.

I realize this is an old thread, but hopefully someone will see it.
I also have a GSS25JFMBWW.

About two months ago I replaced the defrost heater (AP3183311) and thermostat (AP3884317).

I noticed that the fan in the freezer was running almost constantly for a few days and the frost was starting to build up on the back of th freezer.

Following the advice in this thread, I jumped the heater wires and the heater worked normally. I defrosted the freezer and noticed that when I plugged it back in, the freezer fan came on immediately.

I assume this shouldn't happen until the evap is cold enough?

Any ideas which parts I should throw at this based on what I have described?

UPDATE: I pulled the control board out to look for the bad solder issues and found a burned solder joint on the defrost relay. I resoldered it and waiting to see if the defroster comes on automatically. After reassembling, the freezer fan kicked on immediately and continues to run.
I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

Very likely you fixed the defrost problem by re-soldering that joint.

Both the evaporator and the condenser fans should run as long as the compressor is running.
