this is not really a repair question, but a request for recommendation and opinions.

which is better and why? gas or electric dryer (realize i am most likely going to be on propane if that matters)?

we are looking at whirlpool duet or lg tromm, both mid-range priced ($800-$900 for the unit).

any recommendations of whirlpool or lg? how about that (bad) lg customer service i have read a lot about?

thx!

Helmut

Helmut,

If you are going to convert the dryer to LP then it should be gas only.

I would definitely buy a Whirlpool dryer, but you have to make sure it can be converted by design and there is conversion kit available. Keep all old parts after conversion in case you would like to convert it back later.

Another point is that I'll never buy a dryer or a washer (any brand) with computers. They are more expensive and less reliable. I just purchased a few weeks ago the Whirlpool gas dryer, 7 cu. ft., with so many nice options for less than $500 from Lowe's.

In most cases if there is only knobs on the control panel then most likely there is no computers. All front load washers are computerized. You also can ask a salesperson.
