Tumble/Spin Problems following Broken GE Front Loader Washer

Hi, I just wanted to share what seems to be a fairly common problem on the GE front loaders. I went in to investigate the washer not tumbling or spinning at all. I found that the shocks were broken so I started with replacing those thinking that maybe the unit sensed when the drum is not level. Of course it doesn't so the motor would still not run. After running through the diagnostic steps provided on the tech sheet, I found that the timer contacts that signal the motor to run were open. Since I refused to accept as coincidence that the shocks failed and the timer went bad at the same time I went in search of any similar problems in this forum. With some luck I found a thread that originated in 2010, " GE frontloader washer by Fridgidair". To get to the point, it turns out that when the shocks failed, the drum hit and bent the bottom corner of the timer box, causing the contacts (1,3,5 &7) to unseat just barely, and I would have never seen it if I wasn't looking for it. I removed the timer, bent the corner back into shape and ohmed out the contacts and found them to be properly closed. I reinstalled the timer and the washer now works perfectly. So I don't need any help at this point, I just wanted to share since I had to dig pretty deep to find the answer. And I'm quite sure if I'd had a repairman come to fix it I'd have ended up paying for a new timer. Thank you for this forum! Jim

Ge washers suck period. I did one recently where the concrete counterweights on the front actually started falling apart after 1 year and caused the unit the sway around and break the dispensor tube to the bellows. Replaced the dispensor and tube and gasket between and stopped the leak only to find numerous codes in the main board including a bad motor code that Ge never put in the tech sheet or owners manual but yet you search online and everyone knows about their code they never give you in the tech sheets. I've seen this leak problem on quite a few GE's just right out of the dispensor pouring all on the bottom and ruining the machines within the first 3 years
