Hi - When I set my Whirlpool Oven Model GFE461LVS to 350 degrees, it heats to that temperature briefly that proceeds to get hotter above 600 degrees. I ran the diagnostic test and it says that there is an error code of F6E1 - Runaway Temp, press Start to Clear. I replaced the temperature sensor and still have the same problem? I did not press Start to Clear as I don't know if this will fix the issue or just clear the error code.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll order the part, give it a try, and let you know how it works out. It seems strange since the oven is less than three years old and we don't over use it. Also surprised to hear that we should avoid self clean mode (I've probably only used it twice in its lifetime). Not a good testimonial for Whirlpool.

We live in an age of throw away mentality because manufactures make cheap stuff and sell it to the market at high prices then make parts so expensive it's not worth buying them so you have to buy a new appliance. It's sad but true they just care about bottom line and making their share holders happy and not their customers no matter who you buy from.

Well, I took out the main board and looked it over. All connections looked fine. Everything looks brand new. I put it back together and still have the same problem. I found a link where author suggests replacing the contactor ("a very heavy duty switch that turns the current on and off to the heating element"). I searched for this part for my oven, but nothing comes up. I wonder if it goes by another name.

Sorry - I meant to post, but forgot. HumboldtRepairMan was correct. It turned out to be the main board. I shopped around and found one from Sears for under $200. It was not too difficult to replace. Just some wires to unplug and unscrew the board. Took some pictures first to use as a reference for reassembly. Good luck with yours.
