We have an Estate (whirlpool) Model TAWS700EQ1. It noisily agitates with a knocking sound in only the clockwise direction. The water swirls around in the tub in the clockwise direction. So no agitation, only swirling around the tub. The coupling seems OK and intact. My thought based on what I've read is that it is a bad/stripped gear in the transmission necessitating a replacement transmission or a new or used washer replacement. I've seen 2 other threads and they seemed to indicate a bad tranny. What do you think? What do you recommend?

Thanks tremendously for any input/insight.

Yes, the only thing that can cause that is a bad gearcase.
