most likely you have a bad door switch. you must remove the grill by removing screws from top. this will enable you to remove the control panel by removing one screw. the switches are accessable from behind the panel. should be three or four.

There are three switches in this model; 1) door sense switch on the top, 2) monitor interlock switch in the middle and 3) primary interlock switch on the bottom. Which one do you think is broken based on my description? How to get the switch out of the base if I want to replace it. I can unplug it but I have hard time to getting it out. Thanks for your help.

you have an ohm meter you can check each switch for continuity while it is still installed. one lead on common and one lead on normally open. if the switch reads closed, that's the one that's bad. to remove switches you will need to take the microwave down and remove the cover. the switch assembly is held in by one screw. remove screw and lift up to remove. if you go this far, replace all three switches as they are inexpensive.

Hi Scott5495, I am also in NC and not too far from you. Based on your previous replies regarding Microwaves not heating, I was hoping you might be able to help with my problem. We have a GE PT970S (microwave/oven combo). At first, we noticed the turntable would turn when the door was opened. This lasted a few weeks, and then we noticed the turntable would not turn at all and nothing would heat, but sporadically, the turntable would start again and then it heated food fine. Now, the turntable no longer spins and if I check it, the motor seems to be turning freely (there is not the normal motor sound you should hear if you spin it by hand). I checked the coupler, and it looks fine. I am curious:
1) Could a bad motor also stop the microwave from heating?
2) If not, does it seem plausible for a motor and a switch to go out at the same time on a 4 year old microwave?
3) Is it hard to separate the microwave from the oven in order to service it?

THANKS!!!

Gene--I have the same problem. GE microwave/convection oven. Model JE1390GA 001. Fan and light run when door is closed. No heat. I removed all three door switches and tested continuity. It switched on and off as it should. The bottom door switch worked opposite of the top two. If it is not switches, what is it do you think?
