Hello,

I have a Kenmore Elite Kenmore Elite Calypso Washer (model# 11022086100, type: 170). Presently, it does not power up. A few years ago I had issues with the pump. I replaced the pump and it worked for several years until now. I replaced the pump again, it would not eject washer from tub. It worked for a week and now it does not power on at all. I have a service manual (part# 8178010), and followed the procedures for testing current. All locations have AC current (page 55, Troubleshooting Steps). Testing all locations with DMM and all locations indicate that it has voltage. I check the switch for the lid, EMI Line Filter, Main Control Board, Main Control Board and even the fuse which is soldered unto the Motor Control Board. All passed, I am at a lost what can be the issue now.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated. Thx....filosad.

Thank you for your reply. I also feel the same way !!!! The only other question that remains, what is a good machine to replace it with ? Consumer Reports states Maytag is good. If you, or anyone else has a better brand in mind. I would like to know. Also which is better Top or Front load ?.......filosad.

Don't go by what consumer reports say their paid off by the manufactures. They rate LG and Samsung top notch which they are not i work on those things constantly even brand new from the store. Even something as simple as a fabric softener sheet in a blower unit on a samsung will cause the unit to vibrate like a WWII tank. It's hard to say in all honesty alot of the new stuff isn't all that great and it's way overpriced. In all honesty unless your one well water i'd go on craigslist and buy a cheap used old kenmore toploader 80-90 series Whirlpool made model starting with 110 their one of the best things ever made. The parts are cheap and easy to get, their easy to work on and their sturdy not like these new sensitive machines that break if you sneeze on them the wrong way. They actually have a new Samsung model number ending in 2500cw just 2 days ago that if you add too little to the load it doesn't work right and if you add too much to it acts up and doesn't spin out and the timer just stays on forever while spinning and never spins out and this is perfectly normal for this unit. You take 2 items out of it and it works fine their very tempermental and a real pain for the consumer on how to operate it without some code popping up. Honestly something as simple as not usuing H/E soap in a new machine can cause problems such as throwing it off balance, crystalizing at the tub with the pressure tube is and blocking the pressure switch in essance flooding your house because the pressure switch has no pressure and the list goes on and on...........Like i said go with an old sturdy mostly american made product and you can't go wrong. But if you do decide to buy something new be careful if you go Kenmore from Sears, Sears is now selling kenmore's made by LG and Samsung and sometimes Whirlpool make sure to get the first three digits of the model number that is the actual manufacture.

I would like to thank you for your advise, it is really appreciated. I think my wife would prefer for me to purchase a new machine instead of a used one (which is probably more reliable). Personally, I would not purchase any appliance from Sears (I had a really bad experience with them for servicing). I Know I can pickup a washer from a HomeDepot or Lowes, but the question is, in the new market of very sensitive machines, which can give me the most up-time w/o any issues. I am not sure even if I use a Surge Suppressor or Line Stabilizer would protect the computer components of the washer. I think this is much overkill for a washing machine. As for the 6th Sense Live or the ability of having the washer send text msg's to your phone indicating when a wash has completed would be nice but it brings the cost to almost double of a standard washer.
Does it make a difference if it is a Front Loader vs a Top Loader ?
Thx....filosad

Front loader and top loader it's all a matter of preference really and load size. Oh i forgot to mention the Speed Queen brand i'd say best on the market sure you'll pay a little more but the parts aren't too expensive and if you go to any laundry mat you'll see tons of speed queens typically. There's a reason why they're more reliable, dependable and parts aren't too bad when things happen. Good luck and just go with your senses on what brands you've enjoyed before.
