My Kenmore 800 keeps blowing the thermal fuse - 4 times in ~3 months. I am about out of ideas... would appreciate any help. Here is what I have done so far:
1st time: replaced thermal fuse, cleaned outlet lines (they were pretty clean)
- 1 month later, thermal fuse blows again (2nd time): replace thermal fuse. Check thermistor checks OK hot and cold, replaced it anyway
-1 month later thermal fuse blows again (3rd time): replace thermal fuse and electronic control assembly ($$$).
- 1 weeks later thermal fuse blows AGAIN (4th time):confused:
So at this point I have replaced the thermal fuse, the thermistor and the electronic control assembly.
My only other observation is that evidently when the thermal fuse blows, the dryer keeps running until the cycle stops, or I stop it manually to check the clothes. Then it won't start again. That is, it has never stopped mid cycle like I assume it would when the thermal fuse blows.
Each time I 'fix' it I go from hero to zero (again) with the wife, who now says "just buy me new dryer"!

Clean out all ducting inside unit then disconnect the hose from the wall and run it.........if the problem doesn't come back you'll know it was a venting issue...........Most thermal fuses i've seen that have blown where from bad venting and lint clogging in unit or bad thermistor or hi low thermostats getting too hot......good luck

I am assuming that you have the tech sheet.
Does it always blow on a certain heat setting or does it make no difference or do you always use the same heat setting so do not know?

The above is troubling.
You are correct that when the fuse blows it should shut the motor off immediately. The fuse is in the motor circuit.
Note: that I am assuming that the fuse that blows is the one on the blower assembly.
I would say that the fuse is blowing at or shortly after the motor stop.
I would swap the motor and the heater relays.
I think they are the same relay but please check this before swapping them.
My thoughts here is that perhaps the heater relay contacts are pitted and are sticking closed intermittently.
Check the heater for any signs that the element has touched the side of the heater case. This would be strange as usually it will weld itself to the case.
Get a thermometer and check the exhaust temperatures as per the tech sheet. Would also be strange if it is running hot as you have replaced the thermistor and the control board. So if it is running hot I would check the heating element.
All the above are grasping at straws as you problem is weird and also intermittent. |
