My replacement heater kit has just arrived. I read from the instructions that I may need RTV102 to seal the bell connector if I need to cut the wire. Will regular caulk for home repairs work?

I am pretty sure now the defrost heater is burned. I remember in another post somebody said both thermostat and the heater need to be changed. Do I have to change both?

You don't have a timer you have an electronic adaptive defrost control instead. Part 13 on this diagram. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/sect/9/e/j/9ej-ejjjjf.gif

We need your model number to really help but you probably have auto defrost failure Which consists of a defrost heater, a defrost thermostat and a defrost timer (or adaptive defrost control or motherboard etc.)

You have a motherboard part 801 on this diagram. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/sect/m/r/c/mrc38aebds.gif

If the defrost heater and defrost thermostat are ok it will be the motherboard.
