The heater I checked is part 11 on that diagram and I am now realizing that is the wrong one. I looked at the description of the evaporator assembly and noticed it was included with it. As of this morning the top shelf in the refrigerator was cold. Would that mean since the evaporator was encased in ice that the fan was unable to pull air around it to cool the compartment? How many Ohms should this heater read and is it possible to pull the heater off of that evaporator and put a new one on?

The heater you referred to (#11 at the diagram) is not a defrost heater. This part is the dispenser housing heater. The defrost heater is inside the evaporator coils and Samsung does not sell it separate. If this heater fails, you have to order and replace the whole evaporator.

OK, what should the ohms be on the one I need to check?

When I checked the refrigerator this morning it was cold on the top shelf but my wife said the bottled waters in the bottom drawer were warm. When I had put everything back in last night and read the self diagnosis I had no errors but I just checked it and I'm getting the Refrigerator Defrost Error again.

I do not have any specific number for the defrost heater resistance. It suppose to be bellow 100 Ohms but higher than 20 Ohms.

Gene.
P.S. Words "Warm" or "Cold" do not give any good picture of what is going on. The best way is to buy a special refrigerator thermometers to keep them in both compartments so you would know exact temperature any given minute.

Gene,

I replaced the defrost heater and thermostat, but I still have my top portion of my refrigarator getting warm after a couple of months.

I do have the same thing occurring that I didn't mention earlier, that the top door portion of the bottom freezer had a frost build up that I at first thought that my son left the door slightly ajar. But turns out that wasn't it.

My last thing is to replace the circuit board. Would that also be indicated by the frost build-up, or is that just the symptom of the frost build-up on the coils? Will having a bad board effect my replace other parts?

Deb :(

There is no defrost timer in your refrigerator. The defrost operates by the control board (#5 at the diagram).

You have to check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat (#10 & #14 at the diagram) for continuity. The defrost thermostat must be ice cold at that time.

If there is nothing wrong with these two parts, replace the control board.

- The defrost heater Part number: 12729128
Part number: 12729128

- The defrost thermostat Part number: W10165425
Part number: W10165425

- The control board Part number: 12868513

Hi Deb,

I would order the control board from APP and give it a try. Why from APP? Because if it would not fix the problem, you always can return the part.

Thanks. It's been over two months since I replaced the other parts. Can I return the part if I find out that it isn't the part after that length of time?

Hi Deb,

Due to the APP return policy you can do it within 365 days.

Gene,

I got my part from APP very quickly (yeah). I am replacing it, but since it didn't come with an installation diagram, I'm wondering how do I remove the shield without breaking it. I have located the two side mounting tabs on the main unit, that I was able to unsecure, but since I don't know if there are hidden screws behind something else. I am meeting a great resistance trying to remove it.

Can you direct me to a diagram? The one on APP shows only parts, not how to remove it.
Deb

PS You're truly a great resource.
