Hi All,

First off great forum. I am receiving an F6 error code on my Whirlpool Duet HE ghw9300pw4 washer after 25-40 minutes in the cycle. I have performed some loads successfully, some loads are failing. I've tried at medium and heavy spin. I'm going to test at a light spin later.

Notes:

1) Diagnostic cycle does not fail. Even after an immediate load failure.
2) Load size doesn't seem to affect the result.
3) Failures appear to occur randomly, sometimes during spin, sometimes before a spin cycle.
4) I have checked all wiring on the CCU, MCU and motor. Tested motor and getting 6ohms as per tech docs.
5) Basket spins freely by hand (barely any resistance) and I don't hear any grinding or whining.

My thoughts:

Later cycle leads me to believe that this is an overheating issue and either a failing motor, failing MCU, or bearing resistance causing higher current draw and shorting something. Since the diagnostic cycle passes every time (no load), my first thoughts are a bad MCU.

Test #1:

regular load, cold, medium spin
failed at 25 minutes, error 6.
unplugged for 20 seconds
rinse/spin -> completed successfully.

Test #2:

regular load, cold, medium spin
failed at 38 minutes, error 6.
pressed start, failed after 5 minutes, error 6.
switched to drain/spin, failed after 4 minutes. error 6.
unplugged for 20 seconds
drain/spin, failed after 8 minutes, error 6.
ran diagnostic cycle, passed.

FYI, I ordered a new MCU, replaced and have had roughly 10 cycles without error. I noticed that the board had larger capacitors on the original and that the version # on the new board was v11 and the original was v6. Looks like Whirlpool fixed whatever problem was causing these boards to fail IMO.
