Dryer gets too hot on auto dry cycle. Eventually turns off but not after clothes get way too hot. Timed cycle works but clothes still somewhat damp after 45 mins or so.

You have an unusual problem. As we understand it your dryer dries too much in auto dry and not enough in timed dry. There are plenty of explanations for each of these problems, but not a lot for both problems happening together.

I had the same thought as Drags1998. The most likely way you can have both of these problems is for a restricted air flow, which is why checking the vent was suggested. If you did not already do so, I think you are now going to have to tear down the machine pretty completely and check out the inside of the blower motor housing and everywhere else that air is flowing. You may well have a partial obstruction that you cannot see from visually inspecting the air exhaust. You may even remove something you do not see, so after putting it back together run it and see if you have not fixed the problem.

Until you have totally eliminated an air flow restriction I don't think we can go on to the next step, which may involve treating these problems separately.

Good hunting, hope you find an obstruction, it is a cost free repair!
