I have a very nice early 1950s oven with the broiler not working. I get 125V on the black. I also get 125V at the oven selector switch on all blacks and red connected to it when turned to broil. I also get 125V on the white leading from the broiler element back to the selector switch. I have also found I can get 50V if I place meter between the element itself and the frame. The bottom element works fine, that I get 250V across the element ends. Not to sure if the selector switch is bad or what? Please help

Thank you

It's a GE not a Frigidaire. Selected the wrong band by mistake

Hello,

I believe it suppose to be 240 VAC to the broil heating element as well. Unfortunately I'm not able to find any diagrams, schematics and/or parts list for such old product.

Yes, it suppose to have 240 across the element. I have the schematic and I thinks the selector switch contacts are bad but am not sure. I am wondering if the thermostat could be the issue? The bottom element heats up very quickly. Finding parts is a bit of a pain for this.

Hello

I fixed it. Took the selector switch apart and cleaned the contacts one of which was bad. It works for now but I will need to find a good used switch. Older GE with Bake, Timed bake, and broil.

Hi Joe. I'm glad to hear you were able to fix it. What is the part number form the old selector switch?

It is either a WB22X15 or an X25. Since there is no part number on the elector switch it's hard to tell. What I have to go off of is there are three settings, Bake, Time Bake,a nd Broil. When the switch is turn to either one of those a light comes on for the thermostat. On the back there are eight wire connections, and on the inside 4 sets of contact points.

Thank you for your help

I've tried both part numbers and no one comes up. You may want to take the old part to a local appliance parts store to match it up.
