Hi, my wash machine started running very noisy. Led codes indicated mode shifter problem. Tested machine and found that when machine was in agitate mode, the whole tub rotated as well. Replaced the mode shifter, now the machine will not spin or rotate and there is no longer an led light on the motor.
The motor worked before so I am confused.
Tested the fuse, ok.
Tested for power to the motor, ok.
Searching for wires that might be loose, not finding any.
Any insight as to what I may be missing.

I put it in service mode and did not come up with an error code that way, but also failed slow agitate, fast agitate and spin.

Ihurrle, It doesn't sound like you've missed anything. You'll need to check the DC voltage from the main control board to the inverter board. With the washer in service mode, check for 12 VDC from pin 5 to pin 3 and from pin 5 to pin 4 on the C4 wire harness to the motor, If the voltage is present, you'll need to replace the motor

I'm coming up with 0 on the volts across all pins...this was when I had it in the knob 0 position of the service mode.
I went ahead and checked in other service positions for the spin and agitate cycle, this is what I got:

Spin knob position 9 on C4:
5 pin to 1=0 (should be 0 according to ge manual)
5 pin to 2=.46 (should be 0)
5 pin to 3=.45 (should be 12)
5 pin to 4=0 (should be 12)

Agitate position 7 on C4:
5pin to 1=.34(should be 12)
5 pin to 2=0 (should be 0)
5 pin to 3= .33 (should be 12)
5 pin to 4=12.85 (should be 0)

Agitate position 6 on C4
5 pin to 1=0 (should be 12)
5 pin to 2=.34 (should be12)
5 pin to 3=.26 (should be 0)
5 pin to 4=12.84(should be 0)

Is this all indicative that it is a control board problem.
My concern is the led that is not lighting up on the motor...not sure why that is happening. Like I said, the motor worked fine before I changed the mode shifter, but the controls did as well. Is it easy to mess up the control board when you take it off when you do a repair ...only thing I can think happened to it when I took everything apart.

Ihurrle, At this point, yes, you've got an issue with the control board and or the wire harness. You should probably conduct the same tests at the main control board. This will verify an issue in the control board circuitry or a wire harness issue.
It's probably not anything you did when working on the washer, as long as you didn't touch the circuit tracers on the board, drop it, etc. The LED on the motor tells the "status" of the motor (what the motor is doing) If the motor has no circuit, the LED won't illuminate.

ok, i replaced the control board and it did not fix the problem.

I tested the ohms on the new mode shifter and it reads only .06

now, someone told me the motor must be bad and not giving it enough power. But I check the resistance when the machine is unplugged and also when it is disconnected from the motor, so Im confused. I don't see how the motor has the ability to affect this?

Is it the motor that would affect this or is it possible to have purchased a bad mode shifter?

You,ve lost us.
If there's no low DCV voltage from the control board to the motor, at the proper time and pins, the motor can't run, or determine the direction it should be running. And based on your post, you did not have the correct voltages at the proper pin connectors, in any cycle or test mode.

The mode shifter should have a resistance reading of 98 ohms(+/- 10%) When checked at the motor C7 connector with the harness unpluged. But again, without voltage from the control board, or the motor inverter board, the mode shifter wont shift into wash or spin.

At this point, you may need to re check or replace the motor assembly

As the inverter board is not available as a separate component, and they can't be interchanged on the motor itself.

I understand that without any voltage input from the control board or the motor that the mode shifter will not work or spin. But will that affect the resistance reading on the mode shifter pins? I am getting hardly any reading on the mode shifter which is brand new...just curious if I could be a faulty part that I installed or I something else could cause the resistance on those wire to be bad.

We wouldn't expect the "new" mode shifter to be an issue. You have resistance through the coil (approximately 60 ohms, depending on your meter) a faulty coil would have no resistance(infinite resistance) were it faulty. No, I didn't buy it from you guys. I wish I had. I did not find this forum until I had problems afterwards. Where I purchased it from said that the motor didn't have enough power and I didn't think the motor could affect the resistance reading. I did plug in the old part to the motor today and the motor led came on and began blinking 4 times indicating it was a bad mode shifter. Is there any explanation as to why the "new" mode shifter would cause the light not to work on the motor and the motor appear not to work?

Also, just tested it in field service mode, it would spin fine but agitate incredibly super slow. (This is with the old mode shifter connected to the motor but new mode shifter installed but not connected to motor)
