I purchased a FRIGIDAIRE Refrigerator about a year ago...recently I noticed 2 holes in the ceiling apparently caused by the heat from the Interior Incandescent light bulbs.The bulbs actually melted the ceiling and burnt/melted holes clean through.
I tried numerous times to contact somebody from FRIGIDAIRE concerning this issue however I was transfered to a company that handles these problems.
The answer I received was:,
"As a courtesy Frigidaire will issue a part number to replace or repair the issues however I would be responsible for the service representative labor cost to install the part".
First off....I'm not really sure how this can be replaced and the only repair would be to use a cover held on with glue or epoxy.
I thought it was rediculous that FRIGIDAIRE would do this especially when I discovered NUMEROUS complaints with the same FRIGIDAIRE series of Gallery products on the same issues.
Apparently they will not admit to a manufacturing or engineering defects but rather sweep it under the rug by offering an OVER PRICED repair person to come in and glue a panel over the holes which really is NOT resolving the issue but simply "covering it up"
When asked "How would this be handled if it were reported 6 months after purchase? I was told,"the exact same method would have been used regardless when purchased".
So....you spend over $1000.00 dollars on a refrigerater and in less then 1 year the interior light bulbs melt the ceiling and you are forced to just accept that?
Well....looks like I will be on a campaign to warn the public and I will start at the "COMSUMER REPORTS" level!:mad:
I think ALL FRIGIDAIRE products have since been eliminated from further purchases!

Yes it sounds like they are simply ignoring the problem.
Seems like many companies have gone this way unless there are a couple fires and either the government steps in or they face a class action law suit they just move on to new customers.
I would report it to the appropriate government agencies.
Melting plastic can turn into burning plastic so in my opinion this is a safety issue.
Now for your problem.
First check that the bulbs are the correct wattage. Their manual says bulbs are normally 40 watt. You may want to try a lower wattage but they may not give you enough light.
Then go to Home Depot etc. and get some duct tape. It will probably be in the heating/vent area. It is silver foil on one side and peel&stick on the other (not the fiber type). Cover the area above the burn outs. This should seal the holes and also reflect the heat away from the roof.
Probably a good idea to take a look up into the holes to see if it also melted the foam insulation. If melted badly this will cause a couple cold spots and you may end up with condensation problems. |

i just had the same problem today. only my refrigerator is a Frigidaire FRS26R4AW6 pruchase in 2003. I smelled something strange as I was changing the water filter and then realized it was the light bulb that had melted the ceiling plastic (major hole). Since it is Sunday, I need to call tomorrow but don't have much faith that anything will be done about it. I think the other person who replied had some good advice and if they won't do anything for this problem, I plan to report this problem as a fire hazard and never again buy a Frigidaire - I noticed today that they have changed light bulbs in their newer models - must have had this complaint from many consumers.

I called Frigidaire today about the bulb problem and they stated they were not responsible, that any repair would be my responsibility. My recourse: Filed a complaint with US Consumer Protection Safety Commission (if enough people file a recall will be issued). http://www.cpsc.gov/Filed a complaint with BBB against Electrolux http://centralgeorgia.bbb.org/I recommend that anyone who has a similar fire hazar and safety issue with these refrigerators file similar complaints if the company is inot willing to protect the customers.
