One of the burners on my Thermador cook top is sparking when turned on but gas does not flow. I understand, after finding some information on the web, that most likely I need to replace the potentiometer switch. Does anyone has instructions on how to get to it? I suspect that first I need to remove the cover, but not sure how to do it. Please help!

Many thanks in advance,
George

Which burner is not working properly? Only two of them have the potentiometers.
Also I need you to post the serial number of the unit.

- Here are the break down diagrams for the Thermador range Model SGCS365RS

Hi Gene.

Thank you very much for your answer. The serial number is 99050965. The burner which does not work is the front right one (#14 on the diagram).

Thanks,
George.

The problem could cause by one of two parts: the gas burner valve or the knob cracked inside.

The gas burner valve is no longer available.

- The part number for the knob AP2832336

Thanks Gene! I will try to the knob from other burner to see if this is the problem. I hope that it's so easy... In case it's not, what are my options if new gas burner valve is not available? Does it mean that I need to forget about this burner and just live with it?

Thanks again,
George

In case I can find a used valve, how do I get to it - from the top or bottom? Is there easy way to take off the cover?

Thanks!

Access to all parts is from the top. You can see it on the break down diagrams in one of my previous posts.

I must be asking very elementary and stupid questions since I have no experience at all with the stoves - what is holding the top down? Do I need to unscrew something or some clips holding it. I can not figure out from the diagram how to get it off.

Thanks...

In the middle of each burner is a part called a "venture" (#12 on the main top break down diagram). You have to remove all of them, remove burners and then the top panel.

To remove ventures could be a big problem due to rust. You can not force it very much to prevent damage to gas tubes under the top panel.
