The above has worked without fail until last night when the pump continued to run all night long. When discovered this morning there was a slight burnt electric smell, but the pump was still running. Circuit breaker never tripped.

The appliance repair man found about 1/2 gal. of water in the tray below the unit, sucked it dry, and started the machine. the leak is near the pump in the right front corner of the machine which is connected to a large white plastic assembly. The leak is at the junction of pump/fitting.

The repairman referred to the problem part as the "wash motor" but I believe it is actually a "circulator pump". I can send a pictureif it will help.

Questions for the experts here.

There is also a drain motor. what's the likelihood this is at fault/involved. On a cold start the unit runs for a few seconds pumping water with no sign of leaking until fresh water valve opens and the wash cycle starts.

The viable leak is right at the seam between the motor and the impolite housing. Given that the motor definitely got hot enough to give off burnt electric smell, but seems to run fine your thoughts on a repair kit vs replacing the whole pump assembly. Given the units age, and the cost of the pump, I'm hoping for the low cost option.

Good question. He suggested replacing the "wash motor" assembly as a unit as no rebuild kids were available. Did not have parts, but estimated between $500-600 to replace. When I found that a rebuild kit is available for under $100 it raised the options I asked for help on here. I'm comfortable with the work and Gabe the time.
