Hello, I have an intermittent problem with my Whirlpool Super Capacity 465 (Model #: SF369LEMQ 1). During the normal course of baking, the oven will re-light a few times (sometimes only once) to maintain the set temperature. I have a situation where more frequently the oven will begin to lose heat and never re-light. I can tell this is happening because I'll hear the ignitor start clicking along with the gas coming on. After about 3-5 clicks, the gas shuts off. After a couple of minutes, it will cycle through and try again. Eventually, it will stop cycling throught the ignition process and just give up completely. At this point, I hit "CANCEL" and turn on the oven again and it will start up for one cycle and then continue the above sequence. Sometimes, if I open the door when I hear the clicking start, it will light up and maintain the temperature for another cycle.

When everything is working, I'll only hear 1 or 2 clicks and then the gas continues to flow (based on the "hissing" sound). The stove top burners work just fine, as does the broil feature.

Any help would be appreciated...Thanks.

The cause of the problem is that the spark module does not sense the flame when it's on. The spark igniter is also the flame sensor which provides feedback to the spark module.

Make sure the igniter is properly aligned with the burner lighting holes and it is clean. All eight lighting holes must be clean too. You can enlarge them using a drill bit one size bigger.

If it would not fix the problem, replace the bake burner and the igniter.

There is a small chance for the spark module itself to be bad as well.

Hi Gene,

Thanks for the feedback...I am ready to tackle this issue. Before I go and order a replacement spark ingnitor, is there a way for me to test mine to see if it is bad or going bad?

Also, are you recommending that I do enlarge the eight holes on the bake burner?

The only way to test it is a visual inspection.

Yes, I do recommend. It can save you some money on buying new burner.

Gene,

Thank you!!!! I replaced the spark ignitor and drilled the eight holes on the burner 1/64" bigger and now my oven appears to be working as normal. I appreciate the advice you gave me.

Sincerely!!!!
