Refrigerator and freezer were not cooling but fans were still running. Whirlpool model ED22TEXHN02, 12 years old. Did some researched and determined it was the compressor start device. Installed part 8201799. Cleaned out the coils too before starting it back up. (Note: There was a lot of dust built up.) Seemed to be working fine. Fans were working fine. Everything started getting cool. Laid down on the couch for about 30 minutes and when I came back to check on it the fan was not running and it was no longer cool. Did I break it completely now? Would it be worth having a technician come out to look at it?

Thanks

Very likely it went into the defrost cycle which lasts usually about 25-30 minutes. During the defrost cycle the compressor and both fans should be off.

If it's still off, locate the defrost timer inside the control box on the right hand side and, using a flat blade screwdriver, turn the defrost timer shaft CW through the hole in the bottom part of the control box until it clicks. The compressor and both fans should start.

After that replace the defrost timer.

Worked like a charm! Fans are running and fridge is cooling. Thanks so much.

Do I definitely need to replace the defrost timer now?

Yes. The defrost timer is bad because it did not switch from defrost to cooling by itself.
