I have replaced the start switch and my dryer still doesn't start. I really need to get it running. Before it stopped working, it would run whenever the door was closed and the cycle knob was on. Now it doesn't run at all. I can hear the timer ticking, though.

I would check the thermal fuse that is mounted on top the heating element for continuity with a multimeter. If you find that it's bad you will want to clean the blower housing and duct work so the new thermal fuse don't blow again. Part number: WE4M137

Will that keep the dryer from coming on? I thought that would keep it from getting hot.

You can double check to see if I'm correct by checking it for continuity with a multimeter.
Like any other fuse if it's good it will have continuity, 0 Ohms. Like any other fuse if it's bad it will not have any continuity and you won't get any reading on your multimeter.
There are other things that can make your dryer not start to. Without checking them with a meter you are just guessing like with the start switch.

A multimeter would be a good thing to get. It can be used for many things.
