Hello. My Cabrio top loader washing machine has a crack on the left hand side of the lid where a screw has popped the glass upward. When starting a load, the lid will not lock unless I put weight on it to keep it closed. Toward the end of the cycle, an error code comes up on the panel and I have to turn the maching off, then on again. When this happened, I had to put weight on the lid so that it would finish the load. This worked, but I cannot do this forever and need to know how to fix it. Will I need to know what parts to replace or can it be fixed without replacing anything? Am trying to save as much $$$ as possible. Please Help!

My washer lid has the EXACT same problem (except I don't know for sure what's stuck up under the glass). I don't think anything needs to be replaced. If I could just remove the lid then I could hopefully get out whatever it is that's stuck in there and then reinstall the lid. But I have no idea how to remove the lid - my washer was a floor model and came with no paperwork. If anyone can explain how to remove the lid I think the problem could be solved.

I just noticed a crack on the right and left side of my lid and its pushing the glass up. Unfortunately I have had my washer for 1 1/2 years so it is past the warranty. A new lid is $219!! Um no thank you! Is this a defect they should replace?

I have the same problem with the left side of my Cabrio Whirlpool top load washer. Does anyone know if there is a recall on this since there is evidently a problem? How hard is it to change the lid?

I am having the EXACT same problem with my lid. Now the other side is starting to do it. This is a complete defect in manufacturing. Has anyone found any recall on this item?

For those who have posted about the Crack on the side of the lid of the top loader, be aware. mine did that on both sides. and you had to put weight on it to make it lock in place. then yesterday 1/6/15 while being weighted down. heard 2 load crashes and a bang. both of the detergent bottles that were weighing it down had been thrown off and the enter lid broke off. I now have to pull the whole lid off and place it on the ground to change out laundry. how has this machine not been recalled for this problem?? I am not on the hunt for a replacement lid, I guess. If I could afford a new machine I would trash that piece of crap. but unfortunately I haven't even had the machine for 4 years!! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! Sorry to all of you who have already made the mistake. Im very unhappy with this Whirlpool product.

I am having the same problem. My washer is about 4 years old and it just happened 28/18/14. I have to put weight on it to work. I ordered the replacement lid for about $265 Cdn. No instructions to install it. I have no idea how to take the old lid off. I can lift up the main compartment but I don't know how to get at the latch to get the lid off. Anybody have any idea?
