And the questions are. Is it the magnetron?? And is the unit worth fixing since it was manufactured in 1996?? We have had this unit all these years with no problems. I pressed the ‘extra 30 minutes’ button and heard a snap, but nothing will heat, but all of the other functions work(fans, lights etc.).

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

First, thanks for answering. Nope, no strange noises. I put a cup of water in the unit to see if any other functions would work, like POP or micro or instant 2 minute heat to see if the unit would heat the water and water did not heat up. The MW sounded normal and whatever function I used ended normally. The exhaust fan and stove top lights work fine and we have not any power surges or power looses lately.
