Hi Bruce,

Set the refrigerator temperature control to coldest number and the freezer control close to cold. Check the temperatures after 24 hours.

Gene,

We put the controls as you suggested and after 24 hours the fridge was at 50 and the freezer at 10. The fridge was as low as 40 and the freezer got a little colder but I noticed it had bounced back up to 28 or something tonight. The fridge really just continued to get warmer throughout the day. I noticed there is a frost build up starting on the back panel. I'm going to check my thermostat again just in case... What do you think I should look at next? Thanks so much for your insight and assistance!

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

It sounds like there is a problem with the sealed system. It can be a restriction or it can be low on Freon. The sealed system should be checked by a certified technician and repair can be expensive.

I also open the back in the freezer the fan had a screw broken on the fan. I replace the screw so that the air can blow evenly. Everything worked good for about a week now the coil is freezing up and little air is blowing on the frig side what now

Hello Gene
It would appear that my defrost heater is not coming on.
So far I have changed the control thermostat, the defrost timer, and the heating element, and it is still freezing solid.

Any ideas where to go from here?

Thanks Mitch

Hello Gene

Here is the model number for my fridge. FRT18S6ABL
It would seem that the only thing left to change is the defrost
Defrost Thermostat
Item Number: AP2150133
Manufacturer's Number: 5303918202

Thanks for your help

Hi Mitch,

In your post from 6/17 you said that "...I replaced the thermostat...". Was it the same part? Did you check it for continuity?

Hello Gene

I replaced the temperature control thermostat for the fridge, not the defrost thermostat. The later is the only part I haven't replaced.
When checking the defrost thermostat, am I looking for continuity or a particular ohm value?

Mitch

Mitch,

The normal reading should be close to 0 Ohms while it's cold.
