When you push the start button, the motor makes a clattering sound and the drum will not turn. It almost seems like the pulley for the drive belt is not turning with the motor. Is that a possibility?

Is that a possibility? you may have to take front off of dryer . i believe something has fallen in your blower fan assembly. you can try to take out lint screen and look down housing and see if you see anything but chances are you will have to take front off of dryer conan

i'm about ready to flip my lid... have maytag 3000 series front loader washer/dryer.... the washer's been acting up throwing f11 codes.. now the dryer, when you press the start button, the motor hums.. but drum doesn't spin !!!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH these are 2 years old! i found that if i open the dryer door, hold my finger on the door switch, press the dryer ON , and manual give the drum a little nudge.. it starts to spin fine i'm at a loss for words.... Try manually rotating the drum in the correct direction. It should turn fairly easily. If it does then you probably need a new motor. |

ok... if i open the door like i said, and hold in the "door switch" i press the dryer start button... the motor still hums... but no tumble i reach in and can give the drum a little nudge and the dryer starts tumbling fine
i took off the front bottom access panel, and I could see the belt barely but couldn't tell that it was broke or off a pulley
i'm assuming the belt isn't broke... if the dryer tumbles once i give it a manual nudge with my hand
could it just be off a pulley or something ? i'm going to take the back off (i'm assuming that's the best way to get to the belt) and take a look
do i need any special tools to remove a belt and put it back on ?
also... if i do take the belt off and try to run the dryer... if the motor turns fine... does that mean the motor is still ok ? and it could just be a belt ?

i'm assuming the belt isn't broke... if the dryer tumbles once i give it a manual nudge with my hand You are correct.
could it just be off a pulley or something ? No, if it is off the pulley the drum will never rotate.
do i need any special tools to remove a belt and put it back on ? No
also... if i do take the belt off and try to run the dryer... if the motor turns fine... does that mean the motor is still ok ? No. With no load the motor may start. You have to be careful running it while apart as no air will be pulled across the heating coil so you may blow the thermal cut-off. If you want to do this make sure the unit is in an air only mode.
and it could just be a belt I doubt it. |

Yes, that would be at the top of my list.
Before ordering one I would check just to be sure a wire has not come off at the motor. |

so frustrated with these 2 maytags.... our previous set was just old clunkers.. but they worked for years and years and years.... so we splurged and got these... now both the washer and dryer are acting up
is the best way to get to the motor... is by removing the back of the dryer? i didn't jot down the exact model number.. it is a maytag series 3000 performance dryer
