when we set our washer to a cycle it used to fill with water, but now nothign happens until you shut the lid. even when you shut the lid is doesnt fill with water it automatically just starts agitating. i checked the screens theyre not clogged, and the water is on. after researching a little i found a few things that said it might be a timer. so ive taken it out. its one of th eplastic ones, but it doesnt smell burnt or anything like that. any help would be greatly appreciated before i start fixing this thing with a sledge hammer!!!!!!!

What happens with your machine is that the water level switch tells the timer to open the valves. As water fills in the tub it also fills in a tube to the water level switch, increasing air pressure. When the air pressure gets to a certain level the water level switch 'clicks' and that tell the timer to stop filling and start agitation.

There is a good chance your water level switch is stuck in the full position. It is an inexpensive part

so I would go ahead and change it out and see if that fixes things.

That was exactly the problem thank you so much you saved me a ton of money. i took the switch off to see if there was a way that it might of become gummed up, however there was no way to break down that part any further without breaking it so what i did was blew some air in it, and it broke the switch free. im going to order a new one next paycheck still. again thank you very much.

Great, that was clever of you to check it out the way you did it, and we are glad you got it fixed.

Thanks for the update, good luck.
