both compartments warm in my side-by-side Frigidaire....I had the Hmmmm "Click" going on with the starter relay by the compressor.....so I replaced starter relay. All was good for a couple hours, then both refrigerator and freezer got warm again. After unplugging the unit for 24 hours, it would work for maybe an hour or two, then would get warm and Hmm Click started again. Top of compressor warm/hot to the touch.
Anything I can do short of replacing the compressor or scrapping the unit? It's 6 years old.

Here is a wiring diagram ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/Pr...F/Anderson/240389607.pdfCheck the voltage at the plug. Check the voltage at the compressor. Make sure the condenser fan is running and blowing properly. Make sure the condenser coils are clean. The wiring diagram hints that there are alternate wiring set ups at the compressor. Check to see if you have a separate overload. Compressors usually have to get very hot before the thermal cutout trips. |

Thanks for the quick reply. Not quite sure what you mean by 'check to see if there is a separate overload'...can you elaborate? It was very difficult to even get my hands by the compressor enough to replace the starter relay....so I'm not sure what I can do here.
Also, condenser fan is working just fine, and coils are clean.

I appreciate the response. What am I even looking for here? If I already replaced the starter...do you know what the other possible problems are?

What am I even looking for here? If I already replaced the starter Some units have the compressor temperature overload as a separate device, often a round disk. Check out the pictures at the bottom of #3. It may also be built in to your PTC start relay. do you know what the other possible problems are? Below is my diagnosis of what you have said I had the Hmmmm "Click" going on with the starter relay by the compressor.....so I replaced starter relay. I assume that this was happening every couple of minutes originally. Compressor was trying to start but would not. All was good for a couple hours, then both refrigerator and freezer got warm again. After unplugging the unit for 24 hours, it would work for maybe an hour or two, then would get warm and Hmm Click started again. Top of compressor warm/hot to the touch. The unit did cool down so you know that the compressor will run and the freezer evaporator coils are working. You said the compressor gets warm/hot and then it will not start. The compressor has a thermal overload but usually the compressor must be hot for this to open and you said warm so perhaps the thermal overload is tripping too low a temperature. When it is hot and will not run check the temperature of your PTC start relay see if it is very hot. Check the compressor windings with a meter. Check it when the unit is cold. Then let it heat up till it does not work and check it again. Your compressor may have a internal varnish build up that can be fixed by injecting Supco 88 cleaner, but it has to be done by a pro.
