Hi,
Like 2 years ago my machine was leaking out the back randomly. Turned out the drain hose clamp wasn't squeezing hard enough and on violent spins/heavy loads water would come out. So I caulked the hose (even tho you're not supposed to but I didn't see what the big deal was) and it stopped.

Flash forward 2 years later.

Recently I noticed I am missing 5 socks. I posted on Facebook about it.

Today I did an extra small load...and I came downstairs...and my entire downstairs was flooded. The machine filled up and overflowed over the top, and it was still full. I don't know if it ran through the cycles. It was completely stopped on "rinse" with the tub full to the max and then some.

I bailed out the machine and was able to run spin. Water came out the drain.

I went online to troubleshoot and it seemed like maybe there were socks wedged in the pump. I don't know how water would come out if socks were wedged in there, but I figured maybe they were shifting around or something.

So I took the cover off (and there's all kinds of hoses on this model that need to be disconnected to get the cover off, it was scary--I had to cut a wire tie...i don't have a wire tie to replace it). I checked all the hoses leading to the pump and out the machine. No socks. In fact it seems my pump has a plastic doohickey that prevents socks from getting sucked up in there.

Then I lifted the basket. No socks. I honestly don't know where my socks have gone off to. My dryer broke last month and i took it apart and they weren't in there either. (Fixed the dryer, it was a fuse).

Anyway...why would the machine overflow like that if the drain isn't clogged? Do I need a part? Is it possible it was just a "fluke" and it won't happen again? I'm scared of another flood. What else causes overflow over the top?

I don't think its the water level switch...because...it wasn't filling and filling and not stopping. It was just filled to the top and not moving.

Also, I can't get the cover back on. Is there some trick? I think the front goes over the front lip on the base and the sides are supposed to sit on top of the lips on the bottom sides?

Maybe someone can help me troubleshoot this, figure out what part I need (if i need a part) and put the lid back on.

Thank you!

I was able to "blow out" the air tube to the water level switch, and also the cold water intake valve with a can of air. Some shmutz came out of the valve. I don't know if clearing the air tube did anything it looked clear to begin with.

I managed to put the machine back together and ran a cycle and it worked. Question: Could this have done nothing, i.e. this can be an intermittent problem and I will have another flood sometime?

If so what do i look for?
Thanks.
