I bought my igniter from appliance parts pros. Csr told me I should post here. I replaced Oven Igniter with a new one.
Igniter gets very hot but it does not light
the gas. I can feel the gas pumping out from
the burner and I smell gas but it won't light. I read somewhere else on this board that the igniter should be bright white, mine gets very hot but is only orange. Is it abad igniter?

If the gas coming through the burner then the igniter is good. Bad igniter will never open the gas valve. I would recommend to check if the igniter is properly lined up. The burner and the igniter should be parallel. If you removed the burner during the replacement of the igniter, check if it is properly attached to the gas valve orifice. The igniter is properly lined up and the burner is properly attached. The igniter does not get bright white like others have suggested in another thread. It is only orange. I can easliy light the burner with a bbq lighter I even checked the burner for clogs and the burner holes are all clean. Any other suggestions?

What is the part number of the igniter you installed?

Im not sure what the flame is supposed to look like. The flame is 2-4 in in size. The old igniter was the original. It actually had a piece that broke off the part that gets hot.

It does not light up the gas because the gas does not go through the igniter coil properly. The cause could be a bad burner or improper installation of the igniter. Please, double check everything. Gene. P.S. If you would like, you can test the igniter by measuring the current drawn. Normally it suppose to be between 3.2 to 3.6 amps. In order to do it you have to have a clamp-on meter.

If the flame is weak what should I checkout. The oven does not get used much and the other day trying to cook a steak took like 5hrs. ive just been lighting it manually with a bbq lighter

What could be wrong with the burner? I removed the burner and made sure nothing was clogged everything seems fine what else could make a burner go bad. Is there anything special I need to do when I seat the burner on the gas valve
