Sounds like the water level control is shot. Especially if turning the unit off or unplugging it stops the water flow. This tells you that the water valves themselves are OK.
The way it works is, it is a pressure switch. It has a tube that runs to the bottom of the tub. Water rises in this tube as the washer fills, this increases the air pressure in the tube. When the pressure reaches the set point a switch activates, this turns the water off and begins the agitate cycle.
So the problem is 1. The level control is shot. Get a tube with the same internal diameter, attach this to the level control. Start a wash, blow into the tube, you should be able to activate the switch (turn the water off) without blowing into the tube overly hard. 2. Something is blocking the end of the tube preventing the water from entering it. Undo the tube at the level control and blow into it. 3. The tube is leaking or not sealing at the level control. Inspect it for cracks, holes etc. Cut half an inch on the end and re-seat it to the control. |

Not quite sure what you mean. The switch is part of the level control. You did not include a Model Number so I could not look for a wiring diagram. |
