I have a Kenmore Washer Model 11092595210 and have ordered parts from you before, but I need help to determine what my new problem is. The washer started making a noise when spinning like it was out of balance, but that is not the problem. I checked it empty and it makes a loud clunk when it starts spinning and then the noise continues like it is out of balance. Be aware that it still works, fills, washes, spins, just this noise so know something is wrong but don't want to throw parts at it. (Money issue). So, is there anyone there who could point me in the right direction as what to check on the washer, so I could then order my parts? Thanks

Remove the washer cabinet, the pump and the motor. Check how freely the transmission is moving in both directions by rotating the coupler. When it moved CW, the clutch housing should spin, CCW it should agitate. Post the results.

When my husband returned home, I had him listen to it spin. I plugged in the washer and put it on spin and pushed the lid switch to start the washer and it made a loud noise when it started to spin, spinned fine and also stopped spinning fine, but made a clunking noise while spinning. My husband said it sounded like a bearing or gear.
When turning the coupler CW, it eventually hung up. So, I am thinking it is in the gear case. Possibly the Spin Pinion and Gear or would it possibly be the Driver Brake Cam? Is the Driver Brake Cam supposed to be able to turn back and forth about a quarter of a turn? Thanks for your input.

You might have a loose drive block nut, the item that tightens the spin basket to the spin tube. Pull the agitator and check. You will need the special spanner wrench to tighten it.

You can also remove the pump and turn the motor shaft clockwise with an adjustable wrench, then feal for transmission turning problems when the clutch housing turns.

My husband removed the gearcase cover and the spin gear has a 3/4 inch spot that the teeth are about 1/2 the height of the other teeth. His opinion is that is what was making the thump, thump, thump noise as it was spinning. Would that be your opinion also? Any other ideas or advice? Thanks.

I have never fixed one of these. To repair it, you would need to flush the tranny with some oil based solvent like kerosene to clean the nylon gear pieces out, then install a gear set AP3094405, seems easy to do.
Your gear failure was probably from a overload, or something stuck in the tub. If the brake shoes are dragging, that could be cause of the failure.

The whole new gear case would cost you more money, but it will make the repair much more reliable and it comes with one year warranty.

- The gear case (transmission) Part number: AP3096209
