I have been having a problem with my Maytag Performa washer. When I set it to wash it fills and agitates fine, then when it switches to spin it does absolutely nothing. You can hear the timer clicking through all the cycles, but it is not responding. The Delicate mode usually works (have had it stop a few times), the Perm Press mode stops more than it works, and the Regular mode stops every time. Ive tried pressing the lid switch down, when it stops, with a pen. In the Delicate mode, it began to drain/spin, but that would not work on the other two modes. In the Regular mode, spinning the knob all the way around to try to restart the cycle it was in when it stopped, doesn't work. I have to put it in a completely different mode to get it to spin/drain after it washes and rinses. I'm not quite sure whats going on with it

If it will drain and spin in some modes at some times then you should start by replacing the timer.
