Are you SURE the compressor is bad??? I would find out 1st if it is bad(I doubt it is bad) There are a number of special tools required to charge a refer. NOT being disrespectful, It would be MUCH BETTER to hire a tech to look at it!!!:)

I did. He said that the compressor is bad and that i need to buy a new one. His quote was (I feel ) enormosly high. The freezer is not freezing but the refrigerator is cool. ersonally I thing it's low on the regrigerent.

Since the fridge gets it's cold air from the freezer by way of the evaporator fan in the freezer blowing cold air through the damper, it would seem the problem is the air flow. If the evaporator coils in the freezer are iced up the fan can't pull the air across the coils and the freezer won't freeze. That would be a defrost problem.

The coils are not iced up in the freezer and the air is blowing just fine in the fridge. Thanks for the comment

Just my 2 cents

Often low freon can be diagnosed by looking at the evaporator coils after the unit has been running for a couple hours.
It will only cool part of the evap coil, usually where the freon from the compressor enters the coil.

Here is a link. Check out the "Example pictures" at the bottom of the page

denman is rite on, If all of the coils are frosted, Comp. is OK, Theres plenty of gas in the system, and the problem is NOT in the system!!! Put ALL panels back in place, Check BOTH air passages from the freezer to the Refer side(Top and Bottom) Check to make sure the fan motors are both running, Make sure that the ICEMAKER is working OK!!! Make sure that BOTH lights go out with the doors closed. FROM here, Check the run times!!
