I have a Whirlpool GS5SHGXLT00 refrigerator. It will not dispense ice. It makes ice properly and dispenses water. Is there a way I can determine if the problem is in the in-door mechanism or in the ice maker itself? It started as an intermittent problem, and now it will not activate the dispenser.

Does the ice door opens when you push the lever? Does it make any noise?

I have the same problem. Mine makes a noise like it wants to dispense, but doesn't.

Can you be more specific on the problem? The complete model number of the refrigerator might help too.

Thank you. It's a Kenmore Coldspot- model # 106-50594000. The ice maker makes ice but it does not dispense. It sounds like it's going to when you push the button, then doesn't.

Remove the ice bin and push the ice cubes release lever for both cubed and crashed ice. Post the results.

With the tray removed, the opening is spinning. There appears to be no gear drive. We bought this used a few weeks ago. We don't know what piece is missing or what it looks like to order it, if it's possible.

You have to have a simple multimeter to proceed with the troubleshooting.

Yes, the ice door opens and closes. The dispenser does not activate.

You have to have a simple multimeter with ability to measure voltage and resistance in order to proceed further.
