The motor on my sons whirlpool dryer did not run at all so I replaced it with a new one. Now the new one only run about 20 sec. and then everything shuts down (no heat and motor stops). I have checked all the thermostates on the back and think that they are ok.
Could I have received a bad motor (faulty overload) or perhaps the main contoller has issues?
Thanks,
Jerry

We would really need a model number of the dryer to know for sure. Open the door of the dryer, and it should be where the dryer door closes on the dryer. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Jerry it could be the door switch, or it could be the timer. I would jump out the door switch and see if it runs, or you could check it for continuity if you have a ohm meter. There is also a thermal fuse, that could have gone out. It is in the back of the dryer, and is about an inch and a half long, by a half inch wide. Pull the wires off of it, and ohm it out.
