I have a Whirlpool top loader, model WTW5300VW2, that vibrates and walks during spin cycle. We had a repairman look at it and he said the tub spun properly and because the floor and dryer shook while spinning it was a floor support problem. He never checked the balance ring or anything else beyond that. I question his anaylsis since the previous washer never vibrated or walked and the new Whirlpool didn't for some time after it was installed. It recently started this action along with a banging in the side of the tub. The level on the washer is fine, legs are locked down and the floor is level. Any suggestions on how I can confirm the problem without expensive floor repair?

Hi. Take off the cabinet and examine four springs and base plate. If all of them are OK, check the balance ring.It should be filled with water. If it's empty - replace it. The balance ring Part number: AP4340045

Other potential problems are weak springs, worn skateplate friction pads, or item caught in the comb filter under the tub.If the washer was moved, it's possible the skateplate is out of position on one side. You can check for objects in the tub by removing the outer panel and shining a light in the basket. You will need to purchase a special spanner wrench to pull the spin basket.
