Before I go too far - i think i discovered something.

A black tube in the upper right of the maker (which I could see after removing the front cover) was half in and half out of the little rectangle. Would it cause a problem if the tube was sending water to the outside of the rectangular box and directly in and around the ice tray?

If water shoots out of the ice maker, how the ice maker can be full of ice cubes? In such situation you have to see some icicles around. Anyway it would not hurt if you will adjust this tube.

Thank you Gene for your help! The water tube was not the problem.

New information:
1) Tray fills with water
2) White plastic prongs move from vertical position above the tray forward and down below in the front of the tray and ice freezes
3) With prongs in this forward position the red light eventually goes off
4) I grab the icemaker and wiggle it a little and the light goes back on, but it may go off again.
5) Eventually a batch of ice will be made if I wiggle the maker enough times to complete a cycle.

I was hoping this might give a clue as I have no idea how to do that test with 120 vac.

Gene,

I have a Whirlpool side-by-side (model #GD5PHAXMS10) with a water dispensing issue. The water dispenser tube continues to drip water when it is not in use. Could this be a problem with the water inlet valve not closing properly? Any suggestions to diagnose the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Per the last problem description looks like the ice maker itself is the culprit.

Hi Gene,

Yes, I just replaced it on Tuesday, but this was occurring prior to replacing the filter. Can a filter cause this to happen?

John,

You have to dispense 2-3 gallons of water after the new filter installation to get rid of any air in the system.

Jim,

Definitely the ice maker has to be plugged it. Otherwise how the electricity will come to it?

I did not understand why you need to run this test now if by the information you provided in the last post the ice maker is bad?
