I have a 8 year old Maytag washer and lately it occasionally 'sticks' on the part where it's filling up with water during the rinse cycle. It never makes it to the point where it's rinsing actually, just keeps filling up with water. The washer must have an overflow (thank God) otherwise I'd have a house full of water!
I have to switch the dial to spin to start it spinning.
It's the "Quiet Plus" line (14 cycles), but I can get an exact model number if that helps.
Is this something I definitely need to get a service man out here to fix or is this something I might do myself?

Sounds like the problem is a bad timer. You can find the model number on top of the control panel.

I seem to have the same problem altho' now mine will not complete the spin cycle on the "normal setting" It seems fine on the perma press cycle. I just had a repair man in yesterday when I thought it might be the pump. He changed the belt and thinks I need to replace the timer. My Maytag Atlantis is only 5 1/2 years old. It was great up until now.

Very likely the timer on your washer has gone bad. If you need the right part number then post the complete model number of the washer.

OK, my washer model is: LAT9706AAM but none of the books/manuals I have describe any parts (timer switch?) so not only do I not know what to attempt to order but there isn't any guide that might tell me how to attempt this. Are there any resources for this that I can look at to see if this is something I can do myself?

You can find the complete instructions in the Service manual (page 3-1). In order to provide the correct part number for the timer I need the serial number of the washer too. Gene.

The correct part number for the timer in your dryer is AP4027817. The manufacturer redesigned the timer later and changed the part number. The manufacturing date encoded in the serial number. Thats why it's needed to find the correct part number. Gene.
