Hi, I have a GE GSS22JEMD side by side. The freezer rear panel is totally frosted up and neither side cools down. Looking thru the other posts following the advice given them. I unplugged fridge while cold and checked ohms across the wires I thought were correct. Orange that says "IN" on the board and Red that says "DFZ" I got 23 ohms,which means I think, that the board needs to be replaced. Is this correct? And can you tell me where to find one if that is the case?....Thanks very much

Pull the cover off the motherboard in the back, remove the 3 pin power connector on the bottom left and put a jumper between line and defr. pins.
If it now defrosts, you have a bad motherboard, AP4297272.
If no defrost, replace the defrost heater and thermostat.

Where are the defrost heater and thermostat located on a GE GSS20IEPAWW side by side? I do not see either part in the diagrams at AppliancePartsPros.com.

Ok Rich , so Pull the connector, install a jumper, then put the connector back on and try it? How will I tell if the defrost is working or will I have to run fridge long enough to build up frost inside then try it? Where is the heater and the thermostat? Thanks

Put the jumper on the connector, but do NOT plug back in. Plug in fridg. and after a period of time check the back panel of the freezer for signs of defrosting.

The defrost heater is under the evaporator, the thermostat on top, both visible when you take the back panel off.

Make you life easy here, and unplug the refrigerator, and take the back panel off the freezer, and the heater will be on the bottom of the evaporator coil. Take the 2 phillip head screws out that hold it in place, and then remove the wires on each end and ohm it out. If you get no reading it is bad. That heater has gone out so many times, that GE finally redesigned the heater from a single heater to a double heater. Here is the new Part # if you need it. WR51X10101 Tom
