Hi,
It could be the drum rollers, belt idler or motor.
You can tell by taking the dryer apart and turning each part by hand.

thanks... where do I start...what am i looking for... handy but first attempt at appliance repair! then where do i get parts?

Disconnect the power to the dryer.
Remove the two screws on top near the lint screen.
There are two clips in front of the dryer that hold the top down. Use a putty knife or flat blade screwdriver to push the clips in and lift the top.

Now remove the front of the dryer. There are a couple of inside screws that hold it on. You will be able to see the screws looking down from the top of the dryer.

Once you have the top lifted and the front off you can remove the belt from the idler wheel.

Then take the drum out and you will be able to easily see everything.

Start turning and spinning things by hand and you should be able to tell what is making the noise.
