Top oven just stopped working the other day out of the blue. Bottom Oven works just fine. Top oven (broil and bake elements) will not heat at all. Self Clean will not work either. The clock and display work just fine. When you press bake and set the temp and you can hear a click to start the elements but no heat (you hear a click under normal use even when it cycles the elements on and off while maintaining proper temp and upon startup). About another minute later another click and so forth. The display just shows 100 degrees, normal starting display temp.

The click is the relay triggering on which is a good sign. More than likely, your bake element failed. You can check with a Ohm meter.

Thanks, I will check it in the morning. Would this cause the broil element not to work as well? Both bake and broil elements are not working.

Here are your parts Replacement parts for General Electric JKP45BA2BB Electric range | AppliancePartsPros.comIt is a GE so getting any tech info on it is near impossible as GE likes to keep this info a secret. A blown bake element should not effect the broil element. Most units switch between bake and broil during pre-heat and many also do this during bake as it gives a more even temperature in the oven. I did see that the oven has a thermal limiter (Item 159 in Section 2) perhaps this is open (infinite ohms). This would be at the top of my list if it stopped after/during a self-clean cycle or if the cooling fan is not working. Hello and thanks for the information. So here is what I have tried so far: - Checked thermal limiter 158 for the fan. When short wires together the fan comes on. - Checked thermal limiter 159. Has continuity (closed) when oven off. - Checked oven temp sensor and have 1ohm at room temp. I also swapped the lower working oven sensor to the top oven and did not work. - Checked lower element- has continuity through element when disconnected. - I hit clean cycle and door locks as normal Again, The top oven has no heat on broiler and lower element. Displat and controls look good. When hit bake I get no heat, temp stays at 100 degrees and hear the relay click About another minute later another click and so forth.
Please advise- what else can I check? Can I swap the connectors for the upper and lower ovens on the control board or are they wired differently?

Here is an update:
I swapped the broil and bake leads on the control board for upper and lower ovens.
When I put the upper oven bake lead on bake 2 terminal (terminal for lower oven) and turned on lower oven, the upper oven worked. Same with the broil. The lower oven did not work when put on Bake 1 terminal (terminal for upper oven).
I hope this made sense but it appears to me the issue is the control board and the problem is in the bake/broil 1circuit.
Please let me know if you agree or if I am overlooking something.

I agree with your diagnosis that there is probably a control board problem. |
