I have a question. I want to buy parts but not really sure what I should buy. I have to pull out the grinder about every few loads and clean it out. I am not sure if I just need to replace the grinder or if I need to buy the part that causes the grinder to run, there must be some kind of motor? Everything else works fine it just doesn't grind food. Can anybody help me?

Hi Michelle,

The best way to prevent such problem is to remove all food particles from your dishes prior to load the dishwasher.

The chopper is attached to the main wash motor and you do not have to replace the chopper if it's not damaged.

I am not sure if the chopper is out or not. It does not work and the rest of the dishwasher seems to. It is a lot of work to wash off all the food particles, I have ten kids plus andother who lives with us so there are a lot of dishes to get food particles off of. If the rest of the dishwasher is working fine and the only problem is that it isn't grinding food how would you tell if it were just the grinder:) and not hte main motor part:confused: that is connected? I hope I made sense?

Just replace the chopper assembly, the main motor impeller and the check valve in the housing to the right of the chopper. The check valve back flows the chopper screen in pump out and the motor impeller gets worn with the chopper shaft.

Do I need to buy a motor or the impeller assembly kit? Thank you for you help. It is greatly appreciated and I can't wait to get my dishwasher up and running again.

Carefully look at the white coupler end of the chopper, if it is worn, you will need to replace the motor impeller, the motor should be ok. You will need to pull the dishwasher to do this.

From what I've found researching issues I've been having, it seems like that chopper is an achilles heel for these washers (Kenmore branded Whirlpool and Whirlpool). I had a problem a year ago where a piece of a broken glass made it into the chopper and stopped the whole motor from turning. I opened the cover and removed the glass. Now, it seems that the chopper has worn a groove in the shaft and doesn't spin. I'm ordering the part now (I faked the current one to keep the dishwasher running until the part arrives).
