If it's sort of a gravely noise, it's likely to be the motor coupler.

You'll see two screws (Philips head) at the front corners of the console. You may need to remove the endcaps to expose them. Just pry upward and away from the console to remove the caps. Remove the screws and the console will pull slightly forward and swing up on hinges. You'll then see (brass plated) spring clips holding the cabinet and back together. Remove them. Disconnect the plastic connector in the center. (That's the connector for the lid switch). Now the cabinet will rock forward and off the chassis to expose the entire machine. If you were to jump the two outer pins in the lid switch connector, you can operate the machine fully with the cabinet removed. Bottom center is the motor/pump assembly. No need to disconnect the hoses; just remove the two spring clips from the pump, and move it out of the way. Same kind of clips on the motor, usually hels by 5/16" screws. (This is a good time to make sure the machine is unplugged). If necessary, remove the wiring connector from the motor and you now have access to the coupler. It consists of two plastic cogs and a rubber center. They may give some trouble in removing from the motor and transmission shafts, but will come off with perseverance. The replacements will also be tight; I usually can get them on with the help of a mallet and 1/2'' or larger socket or nut driver, until they're flush with the ends of the respective shafts. Reassembly is reverse. take your time and make sure everything lines up correctly. It helps to start the motor with the upper clip, so you can work with two hands free. Make sure, when reassembling the cabinet that it sits on the indexing tabs on the chassis. First time out, this job should take you no longer than an hour.
