i have a electric gibson dryer it runs but will not shut off except when i open the door im wondering if a wire may have come off

Does the timer advance to OFF?
if NOT
Does it advance in Timed dry?
Does it advance in Auto mode?

The timer motor gets power from different circuit paths in Timed and Auto modes.

yes the timer advances it just bypasses the off settings and keeps on running thank you denman any ideas

Here is are your parts, includes a wiring diagram.
Model MDE216RED1

Probably either the Push To Start switch or a set of contacts in the timer are welded together.

Check them with a meter. Be sure to unplug the machine and disconnect the device before checking.

If it starts up again if you re-close the door it is probably the Push To Start switch. If not probably a timer contact.

now my question is will i be able to take the timer apart and unstick the contacts that got welded togeather thank you for your time

Not an easy thing to do. Timers are usually riveted together.

Since a new timer is around $100.00 it is a good idea to check it with a meter before replacing.
