preparing to install vent free gas logs w/ nat gas.Do residential gas meter installations normally have pressure regulator inline or do i need to install separate one?

The appliance rating plate states the acceptable range of inlet gas pressures, which usually is from 7-12 wci. If these are logs being installed into an existing fireplace, you need a level II inspection prior to the installation and sweep if necessary. If going into an existing factory built fireplace, that fireplace must have been tested and listed for use with ventfree logs and none were prior to April 1999. I know Heatilator/ Heat&Glo expressly forbid VF in their fireplaces because it will burn the house down.
Check your clearances to combustible mantel--may require a canopy.

If it doesn't come with an approved shutoff, provide one within 6 ft with 'access' or per the gas code. Also need a sediment trap near the appliance.

Get an unlisted low level CO monitor---not some piece of junk off the shelf listed to UL 2034. Review the operation, ventilation requirements, etc.

Read the manual prior to installation.
