I have a “Jenn-Air” Microwave (Model JMC9158BAW15), which sends out sparks during operation. These sparks have perforated a hole in the Cover-Ceiling (AP4221322) and have discolored the inside surface of the oven area just above the Cover-Ceiling. The tip of the Magnetron is charred and pitted. Can I replace this Magnetron and Cover-Ceiling? Will this repair the issue? See this for a video example... Microwave Magnetron Fail - YouTube

Hi Gene, thanks for your reply. I would like to get a better understanding of this; “body of the microwave (the tunnel) is not damaged.” The waveguide tunnel is smooth but has some spotty discoloring. I have wiped this clean with alcohol. Just over the ceiling plate, on the oven surface, there is also some dark spotty discoloring. I have used soft scrub and alcohol to clean this off. This surface is now clean and smooth, but discolored. The mica ceiling plate itself has a hole in it. I am replacing this. I figured I would switch our the Diode and Lamp while I’m at it. The Cap is good.

Remove the magnetron and check the other end of this tunnel. If paint is damaged then it is not repairable.
Gene.

Thanks Gene,
The waveguide tunnel the Mag connects to is metal, but I do not se that this is painted. Are you syaing there is a coating on the inside surface of this tunnel? The Microwave oven chaimber itself has an enamel paint on this, althogh discolored, it still seems intact.
I think I'm going to go through with this repair and try it out. I'll post the results. If it sparks, I'll get a new oven.
