My whirlpool electric dryer SR# mg40z21311, model# ler5636eq2, will run a short time at high heat and then suddenly shut off. After cooling down for short period, the cycle can begun again only to repeat the same problem again when the dryer heats up. The dryer is about 7 years old. So far I have replaced a thermostat cut off on the heat tube which a continuity check showed it to be faulty. Any suggestions as to what to look for that could be causing this condition?

When the dryer motor shuts off, it's in the high heat mode. On low or air dry mode the unit will continue to run. When the motor shuts off, I can restart it using the start button after 5 mins or less of cool down and does not restart on its own. The first time I started having problems with it I assumed the problem was in the heating coil however, it tested (continuity) okay. As I followed the wiring diagram I performed continuity test on the thermostat's, thermo fuse and found the defective cut-off thermostat and replaced it. I also replaced the hi-limit thermostat as suggested by the parts supplier.

I have not tried rotating the drum yet and will do so today. After reading another post about a possible object stuck in the belt, I did notice a light thumping sound as my drum rotates and will inspect it for a possible lost sock. Would an object obstructing the belt cause the motor to overheat? I assume it possibly could. Thanks!
