Hi all,

Just moved into a new house about 6 months ago that has a Broan #1050 compactor. The other day the ram got stuck at the bottom and won't come back up. When I turn the key it juse keeps spinning. I figured the chain fell of or something but when I took the back off I noticed the chain is on and spins fine. I can also spin it it manually with no problem but the ram won't come up. When the motor/chain spin it does click every second or so and the ram flinches like it wants to go up but won't.

Any ideas / suggestions on what I should look at?

I was able to get the ram back up by letting the chain spin and slowly raising the ram. You have to go slow so the motor can reel it up. Problem is when I let it go it unwinds so it's like its too weak to hold it up so I need to figure out what that is... at least I was able to get the stinky trash out of there and now have access to the front since I know how to open the door now.

I need a 12" compactor with latch. I can find used Broan foot pedal models. Can they be "field" converted to a Latch model (-L)?
